New Zealand Standards

For installations which must meet the requirements of AS/NZS4121:2001 it is
important that the installer refer to the Standard. The following pages contain

a summary of the key requirements.

Toilets

• The minimum dimension of a toilet compartment is 1900mm by 1600mm.
• The front edge of the toilet seat must be 700-750mm from the wall.
• The centre line of the toilet seat to the nearest wall must be 450mm.
• The front edge of the toilet is 300mm minimum from the wash basin.

• The toilet lid is supported between 10-15 degrees beyond the vertical to provide a backrest.
• Top of seat must be 460mm from floor.
• Flushing buttons must be easily operated and must be positioned between 600mm-1100mm from the floor, and within
500mm of the centre line of pan, or if on the side wall, within 300mm of the front edge of pan (forward or backward).
• For wall hung pans a false wall may be required to get distance to front of pan. This false wall must be less than
400mm wide and 1000mm high. If no false wall is used, a seat bracket is required to support seat.
