CONFIDENCE IN COMPLIANCE
Basins Location and clearance for washbasins and fittings
• Basins must have a maximum depth off the wall of 400mm.
• Centre line of basin must be at least 400mm from a wall
forming a return.
• Basins must provide a minimum clearance of 675mm
underneath the basin.
• Water supply pipes and waste outlets must not encroach
on the required clear space.
• Exposed hot water pipes are to be insulated or covered.
• Must be a clear space of at least 760mm wide and 1200mm
deep in front of basin.
• Must be positioned near to the toilet with its nearest edge
a minimum of 300mm away from front of pan.
• Plugs must be connected to, or form part of, the basin.
Tapware
• A mixed flow of water delivered through a central outlet.
• Max water temp of 55 degrees.
• All tapware controls at 50-60mm clearance of any obstruction.
• Handles must be lever or capstan which are easily operated by someone with limited hand function.
Grab Rails Toilet unit fittings:
Positioning of grab rail and paper roll holder
• Handrails must be rounded with an outside dimension
of between 30-40mm and shall be non-slip.
• There must be a clear space of 50mm minimum between
the rail and the wall for the full length.
• They must be capable of sustaining a force of 110kg applied
in any direction at any point for a period of 2 minutes with
no sign of fracture or permanent deformation of greater
than 1mm after force is removed.
• Grab rails must be placed next to a toilet, with a 90 degree
shape 750mm long and 750mm high and at a height of
700mm from the floor to the horizontal rail.
• The vertical portion of the grab rail must be between
150-250mm away from front of pan.
Other
• Toilet paper dispenser and sanitary napkin receptacles must be located within easy reach of person using the toilet.
• Paper holder zone is within the 300mm from front of pan at a height of between 460-700mm above the floor.
• Soap dispensers, sanitary towel disposal units, hand-dryers etc. must be installed at a height between
900-1200mm above floor and must not encroach on wheelchair manoeuvring space.
• If a mirror is provided, the lower edge must not be more than 1000mm above floor level.
